About One Book Sarasota

“We are the products of editing, rather than of authorship.” ~ George Wald

The One Book One Community 2018 selection, “Sing for Your Life” activities have begun!

Author Daniel Bergner gave audiences at the Suncoast Technical College in North Port and at the Sarasota Opera House the powerful and compelling story behind the life of Ryan Speedo Green, the subject of “Sing For Your Life”. Bergner expanded our understanding of Ryan’s challenges and climb from a violent childhood to the stage of the Metropolitan Opera. A total of over 600 people heard Ryan’s story and how this book came to be.

Asolo Play Readers will perform at the library.

In addition to the theatrical readings, the Sarasota Youth Opera will present a program at Selby Library on Saturday April 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Come one, come all! This program is open to all ages.

You can also hear Ryan Speedo Green’s performance in the opera “Semiramide” March 10 at 1:00 p.m., streamed live from New York’s Metropolitan Opera at CineBistro, Siesta Shopping Area and Regal Hollywood 11 Theater on Main Street. (Encore screening on March 14)

Your local library may be hosting book discussion groups, and you can create an instant book club yourself with our “Sing For Your Life” Book Club Bags. Each bag contains 10 paperback copies of the book along with book discussion questions.

Although the author events have passed, we still encourage you to give this book a try, and we look forward to seeing you at a One Book event!
