One Book voting so far and what you can do

One Book voting is off to a good start after the first of thirteen weeks. In votes cast online, a clear favorite is emerging. (See chart below.)

“Which book is in the lead?” you ask. We’re not telling because we love a secret.

Seriously, we’re not telling because we don’t want to sway the election. (Twelve more weeks of voting is plenty of time for the book represented by the tiniest slice of the pie up there to pull ahead.)

You, however, can sway the vote for your favorite book. Here’s how:

Beginning Monday, June 18, we’ll feature a different One Book candidate each week. We’ll link to reviews, author interviews and other resources to help Sarasota County residents make an informed choice. We want to hear your opinions on each week’s featured book. Comment here or on Facebook.

If you feel strongly about a title, email or use the contact form to send us a few sentences, a paragraph or two, or even a full-length essay about why your favorite is the best future One Book, and we’ll publish it here as a guest post.

The schedule for meeting the candidate books is as follows:

  • June 18: “Cloud Atlas”
  • June 25: “Salvage the Bones”
  • July 2: No book featured; Happy July 4th!
  • July 9: “The Snow Child”
  • July 16: “Someone Knows My Name”
  • July 23: “Unbroken”
  • July 30: “Unholy Night”

Don’t forget that when you’re ready, you can vote in person at any Sarasota County library, at Bookstore1Sarasota (1359 Main St., Sarasota), at Books-A-Million (4230 S. Tamiami Trl., Venice) or online by clicking “The Vote, 2012” above.
