Sarasota County libraries hosted news conference at 10 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, at Fruitville Library, 100 Coburn Road, Sarasota to announce the “Steal This Book” campaign, part of the One Book, One Community program.
The “Steal This Book” campaign will distribute more than 150 free copies of “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak in various public locations around Sarasota County. People are encouraged to take a copy, read it, offer comments at www.onebooksarasota.com or on the inside cover of the book and then leave it in a public location for someone else to pick up and read.
There will also be an announcement about the One Book grand finale.
One Book, One Community is a national initiative designed to bring people together by reading and discussing the themes of a book. Participants are invited to a variety of events and activities, including book discussion groups, films, readings and theatrical performances. Sarasota County libraries have partnered with Dear Reader.com, the Herald Media Group, the Asolo Repertory Theatre, Borders Bookstore, Creative Loafing, Sarasota County Schools, University of South Florida, New College, SCOPE, the Literacy Council of Sarasota, the Literacy Volunteers of South Sarasota County to present the One Book, One Community program.
